Research

The research behind the design

Before I design or build anything, I try to understand the real problem. Here is how I work, in my own case studies.

Approach

How I approach research

A mix of methods, chosen to fit the question

  1. 01

    Understand

Interviews, contextual inquiry and diary studies to learn what people really care about.

  2. 02

    Evaluate

Moderated and unmoderated usability testing, heuristic analysis and task-based studies.

  3. 03

    Map

Journey maps, scenario maps and information architecture that reflect real mental models.

  4. 04

    Synthesise

Affinity mapping and analytics triangulation to turn raw feedback into decisions.

  5. 05

    Align

Bringing stakeholders into the research so the roadmap is built on evidence.

  6. 06

    Validate

Iterative prototype testing, so what ships is what testing showed works.
